Benefit Considerations: Medicare and Group Health Plans
September 15, 2021 – With Medicare open enrollment around the corner, join us as we discuss Medicare and group health plan considerations. We will begin with a review of Medicare eligibility and Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) rules. We will continue the discussion with how Medicare rules interact with other benefit laws, such as Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) rules, Section 125, and COBRA. We will conclude with a summary of Medicare’s reporting and disclosure obligations. By the end of the presentation, participants should better understand Medicare rules and their impact on group health plan benefits administration.

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow: Leaves of Absence and Benefits Compliance Considerations
July 21, 2021 – Join us as we discuss various leaves of absence and their impact on benefits administration. We will discuss topics such as benefit eligibility, contributions, and COBRA applicability. In addition, we will review considerations under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), emergency paid sick leave (EPSL)/expanded FMLA (EFMLA), Section 125, and state law. By the end of the presentation, participants should have a better understanding of benefits compliance issues that are implicated with administering leaves of absence.
California v. Texas: the Supreme Court and the ACA
June 22, 2021 – In this episode, Suzanne Spradley and Patrick Myers discuss the Supreme Court’s ruling in the latest challenge to the ACA. Suzanne begins with a history of legal challenges to the ACA, and then discusses the Supreme Court’s recent opinion. Patrick and Suzanne then look at how the Supreme Court’s decision impacts employers and what we can expect from the current administration in response. Suzanne closes with a discussion of the future of health care reform, both at the state level and the federal level.
